Most businesses worry about their competitors, worry about their "image", their marketing videos, their website, how much they are charging/hour etc
It's all about them and not the clients Marketing just like is more fuel for your business.. If your car is running rough, it's misfiring and with a flat tyre - by adding more fuel won't help your car to run. You need to fix the actual problem to move forward You won't slap on an aftermarket turbo on your non-turbo car if you haven't upgrade your brakes and suspension unless you have a death wish If you can't manage 3 clients, you can't manage 30 If you can't deliver the results and make 3 clients happy with your work, the next 30 clients won't be happy with your work If you can't manage $3k/month, you can't manage $30k/month Same principles apply to your detailing business Without getting your foundations right, all your marketing efforts and ad spend will all go down the drain (Speaking from experience lol. Have spent more than $3k on ad spend in a week and not get a single sale. A painful thing to experience) Most detailing business don't have their foundations right and they start spending a bunch of money on ads and they wonder why they can't make it work Then they start relying on referrals and word-of-mouth, or what I call "hope and pray marketing" Having jobs booked out for a month looking at AMGs and Bentleys on Carsales, and then next month hits they are scraping the barrel with one-knee on the ground praying to 9 religious gods for the phone to ring The most important thing is the foundations of your business, especially if you want to scale and grow it. The foundations of your detailing business starts with: - What is my unique market to cut out from the competition instead of having the same message as everyone? (your niche) - Who are my ideal clients? - What's the highest value can I bring to them? - How do I price my detailing services based on value? (not per/hour. It's old, broken and rigid) - How am I delivering the service? Efficient? Do I need to work on my paint correction skills? Do i need to get onboard with some exclusive coatings? Once you have all your foundations set, marketing is a piece of cake. You don't even need to pay any ads to get high-paying 4-figure clients When you have your unique market and ideal clients nailed down, finding and reaching out to them is extremely easy Marketing becomes a breeze, after setting everything up you get clients on-demand with a click of a button on the backend of FB ads manager I've nailed everything and boiled it down my Uplevel Detailing program You can either figure this out yourself and it would probably take maybe 3-10 years? Or I can just give you the shortcut, skip all enpensive mistakes and get it all dialed-in in 6 weeks where you'll: - Define your unique market and your foundations - High-ticket sales to systematically close deals over the phone/in-person, where I give you my word for word sales script - Organic marketing methods to generate 4-figure detailing jobs entirely for free - My entire FB ads game plan which I've spent tens of thousands of dollars on ad spend and working with the top direct response marketers - Business operations to grow and scale to the 6-7 figure calibre with hiring and managing an all-star team, running your business like a well-oiled machine The actual running and growing the business side of detailing that no one really has talked about or even teach in this industry - especially in this new age of detailing where there's tons of competition and how to market yourself and not drown I'm currently in taking *only* a couple more students for October If you're serious about getting to the next level, shoot me a message and let's talk

In competition, somebody has to lose. There's a contrast of a winner and loser
I have observed probably about more than 5,000 detailing businesses in the past few years (Which realistically I'm barely even scratching the surface. There are more than 60,000 detailing business in the states alone) And they more or less looks exactly the same Similar branding, similar websites, pricing, packages etc, even with the rise of coatings in the past 5-7 years with the exact same marketing, message, and similar media and promo videos It's an extremely competitive market. How many times have your potential clients go to someone cheaper? Even though I have amazing clients who understand my value and my craft, they are extremely rare. It's probably only about 0.5 - 1% of people who enquire Which is exactly why I'm introducing the new-age of detailing businesses - where we define our own unique market without having to compete with each other What happens if you define your unique market? You're in a market on your own and not competing with everyone else You barely get any competition, and you command your prices to charge what you're worth You become a specialist, not a general detailer You get to work on your favourite type of vehicles whether it's supercars or trucks And not random soccer mum SUV or your average joe's toyota camry that just needs a "clean" If you're a generalist and target everyone you get the worst jobs and you get no one Detailing is an extremely broad term. It can mean just a wash and wax? Interior clean? Polishing to gloss it up? Paint correction to restore paintwork? Or maintaining a vehicle's shine, or protection? Most of the time when someone enquires you, they don't even know exactly what they want. But if you niche down and define a unique market, your marketing and sales becomes 10x easier and stronger than the rest of the competition "I detail cars" VS "I specialise in correcting and restoring British vehicles" or "I specialise in ceramic coating European vehicles" or "I specialise in restoring and preserving 90s JDM vehicles" Just that little shift it changes your business entirely - Your target market will ONLY go to you and not anyone else, will not price shop, will travel across states just to get their vehicles done by you When comes to running and growing a business to the 6-7 calibre in this era, it's not only about delivering a great quality service It's a system as a whole where there's also - Foundations, ideal clients, pricing and backend structure - Branding - Sales - Targeted marketing (with the current landscape of social media PPC ads) - Business operations - Hiring and managing top talent and build an all-star team - Principles and mindset All and each of those it's just as important as any part of the business as a whole The actual running and growing the business side of detailing that no one really has talked about or even teach in this industry - especially in this new age of detailing where there's tons of competition and how to market yourself and not drown If you're looking to be on the front line of the new age of detailing, I have something for you I help detailers book high-value clients consistently and grow their business to the 6-figure calibre through my Uplevel Detailing™ program which covers end to end of the entire system as mentioned above You can either try it yourself and spend 3-10 years to figure it all out by yourself, or I can give you the shortcut in 6 weeks, which it took me tens of thousands of hours and dollars to figure it all out 😉 I'm currently in taking only a couple more students for September and October. If you're serious about getting to the next level, shoot me a message and let's talk Instead of sitting around waiting for the phone to ring and wonder when you are going to book your next job..
Leverage one-time offers Pick up the phone and start calling (don't send a message or email) your past leads in the last 7 day period who didn't book it in and start offering them what I call one-time offers Tell them there's a last-minute cancellation and you're happy to book in his car at a discounted price that is only available on a specific date (driving scarcity) Also this leans towards the benjamin franklin effect, where he'll like you more by doing you a favour by filling in the spot for you Would it be your ideal, dream clients who values your work? Maybe, but usually not But would you rather make $400 - $1,000+ on that day or make $0 waiting around for the phone to ring? Keep hustling my friends The looky-lous leads usually don't tell you a lot of information and don't take the enquiry seriously. And often very short like "how much"
Usually the looky-lous will tell you "I'll let you know" or "let me talk to my wife" after a 1-hour lengthy consultation for different options and usually very hard to close (not saying it's impossible, just harder work) But however, the hot lead who is ready to buy will tell you detail about their car and asking what are the payment options Usually they will decide almost immediately and ready to get their cars done It makes a huge difference knowing how to identify them so you can structure your sales process to close them accordingly You don't need to spend plenty of time trying to convince the hot leads when they're ready to buy as opposed to the looky-lous In business, numbers = everything
Without knowing your numbers, you're pretty much walking blind without a direction It's the dashboard in your car, but for your business - you need to see which ones are in KPI and which ones are out of KPI and playing with the levers to grow it It's like stepping on the accelerator and making your car go faster Once you know your numbers, it's easy to work backwards to reach your goals Example: My goal is to make $10,000/month Average customer value on cash is $1,000 (some package would be $500, some would be $2,000, let's make it $1,000 to simplify it) I need 10 clients per month to make $10,000/month And let's say if my call conversion rate sits at 20% 1 out of 5 people who enquire will book with me Which means I need about 50 leads per month 50 leads per month, that's 1.67 leads per day, let's make it 2 per day Generate 2 leads per day = I reach my goals of $10,000/month Don't know about you but generating 2 leads a day is extremely easy Once you have niched down to a unique market on your own, it's easy to target them Seems very simple (because it is lol) but people seem to overcomplicate it and focusing on the wrong numbers.. Instead of getting more bookings, they focus on getting more likes on their page and the "image" of their business They want more views, likes, and comments which don't bring any bookings Facebook, fb live, instagram, insta story, insta live, snapchat, youtube, blog, networking, then partnering with other detailers who are doing the exact same thing When do you actually detail and work on your craft? You can see I don't do any of that and I have consistent high-paying clients since 2016 with volume - all because I focus ONLY on the things that move the needle in my business The only metrics that matters and you NEED to know are - Leads per day/week/month - Cost per lead - Call conversion rate - Average customer value on cash (not lifetime value or revenue) - Cost per customer acquisition - Return on ad spend The rest are just vanity metrics e.g CPC, Likes, Comments, Impressions, Engagement, Followers, Views etc Those numbers don't tell you anything and it doesn't bring you more bookings I will gladly pay $1,000 for a click if I know for a certain that click is going to buy You're running and growing a business. You're not trying to be famous. If you are trying to be famous, blasting on social media all day is the way to go (and have your lunch eaten by your competitors who know their numbers 😉) But for the winners who wants to make 6 figures - I have something for you I help detailers book high-value clients consistently and grow their business to the 6-figure calibre by defining a unique market without competitors and implement targeted marketing and sales in 6 weeks through my Uplevel Detailing program The actual running and growing the business side of detailing that no one really has talked about or even teach in this industry - especially in this new age of detailing where there's tons of competition and how to market yourself and not drown I'm currently in taking only a couple more students for September and October. If you're serious about getting to the next level, let's talk If you're struggling to charge more than $300 for a detail..
It's not about the demographic, nor it's about the area that "doesn't pay for a quality detail" It's all about you and your business There are guys crushing it in 6,000 people small town with 4 figure detail jobs People still buy $100,000 cars and $2,000 iPhones in a small towns And if you're really good in your craft, you will get clients to travel to you just to get their cars done (still blows my mind to this date) Today's topic is more about the inner game of sales And truthfully the inner game is 10x more powerful than any sales tactics What you charge is a direct reflection on how confident you are in your business and your craft And directly reflects on how much you have invested in yourself If you have never invested for anything more than $1,000 in your business and you've always want to think about it, then you will never be able to charge more than $1,000 and you will get people who will always want to think about it I used to pay for the cheapest chemicals to maximise my profit, always wanting a deal, always wanting to think about it, avoiding calls from clients etc And I've never been able to charge more than $350 for a detail and I get the worst clients Tried different marketing gimmicks and different sales tactics to book higher ticket jobs. None of it work Everything shifted when I started to invest in my business with better equipment, chemicals, tools etc Did not spend more than 3 seconds to decide to buy a couple of the new rupes polishers A week later I booked a $1,500 job for a correction and coating - client booked it on the spot without thinking about it, and there wasn't a lot of "sales tactics" going onto it too The logic behind is your subconscious doesn't believe people will pay for a $1,000 because you yourself have never paid for a $1,000 service People sell the way they buy - If you've bought other services over $1,000 before, then getting people to book a $1,000 detail is a piece of cake And people buy the way they sold If you're not confident about your service, people won't be confident about your service and they will always doubt your work and try to find missed spots to beat you down If you have full conviction and confidence in your craft, they will not take another look at your work even after they have paid for it because they truly believe in your work Happens quite common than you think, some of my clients never even took a second look at their vehicles even after they paid upwards of $2,000 - they have full trust and believe in my craft It is so important to become the clients you want to get Make decisions on the spot, don't linger decisions to think about it. Start investing in yourself even if there's a hefty price tag. Respect your vendors. Start supporting other businesses etc People will treat you the way you treat other people All of it it's going to reflect 10x in your business It's getting way too competitive
It doesn't help when the general public doesn't see the value of getting their car detailed Walk on the street, ask if anyone if they will pay $1,000 to get their car detailed and they straight up think you're a scammer The worst part, most detailing businesses kinda looks the same from a bird's eye view... Generalism is the big problem we're currently facing Similar logo, similar branding, similar price points, and targeting pretty much the same type of demographic Not only that, but there are also plenty of detailers undercutting each other with fly-by-night detailers popping up with the exact same marketing How can you market yourself and not drown? One of my mentors told me in my early days of entrepreneurship: If you have competitors, you're already in a losing battle Competition is like a double edge sword - it's a sign of a healthy economy and industry, but it's an uphill battle for the business owner With small, passionate detailers, how are they going to compete with the big established guys? Which I actually have found the answer to and that is something I've been working my ass off lately... Which I TRULY believe with my entire heart and soul it will shake up the entire detailing (or even the automotive) industry Transforming detailers to what I call the New-age detailing business, or Detailing 2.0 if you will Where instead of being cut-dry generic detailers offering the same services as the other guys with massive competition, (Even for ceramic coatings as they are getting too saturated) We niche down, target and brand ourselves as a specialist in a specific segment of the market It could be targeting and offering: - Specific type of brand - Specific type of service (I know some PPF guys offering ONLY wraps and doing more than $100k/month) - Specific type of vehicles (e.g 4x4s or trucks) The list has endless possibilities If you try and market to everyone as a detailer, offering a generic detailing service, you're going to drown with endless price battles with random everyday soccer mum interior jobs But however, if you market yourself as a specialist to a specific niche, you will become their go-to detailer working on vehicles you love and have passion for And then now you're in a market of your own Your marketing and message will be 10x, if not 100x stronger than your competitors Now imagine having that together with your high-ticket services, your business is going to explode Eg. - I specialize in preserving classic Jaguars and maintain their condition - I specialize in restoring BMW's paint with paint correction - I specialize in tinting European vehicles with ceramic tint - I specialize in restoring and maintaining classic JDM vehicles - I specialize in detailing small private planes - I specialize in applying PPF on trucks Offering paint correction specifically for a type of vehicle is 10x stronger than just saying "I'm a detailer and I do paint corrections" That's how you define your unique market without competitors If every detailer does this, there will be no undercutting, no price battles, and barely any competition because every business will look so different than each other That is just the tip of the iceberg of Detailing 2.0 When comes to running and growing a business to the 6-7 calibre, it's not only about delivering a great quality service It's a system where there's also - Branding - Sales - Marketing (with the current landscape of social media ads) - Business operations - Managing a team and culture - Principles and mindset Which it's just as important as any part of the business as a whole Good news is, I'm currently intaking ONLY a few more students in my Uplevel Detailing program this month where I help them to transform their business to Detailing 2.0 Nailing down a niche, ideal clients, high ticket price points, implementing targeted marketing and high-ticket sales to book high-value clients in their niche consistently like a clockwork The whole running and growing a detailing business side that no one really has talked about or even been taught, especially for Detailing 2.0 If you're serious about getting your detailing business to the next level, shoot me a message and let's chat How do you compete with the guy charges way less than you?
The answer is you don't Be in a market of your own You see, if you look at the average detailers from a bird's eye view - all their business kinda looks the same Their logo looks kinda looks the same, their business cards, their messaging, website etc is always the same message It doesn't help especially when there's random fly-by-night jim james john detailing popping up everyday Your potential clients don't know the difference That's where your Point Of Differentiation and Unique Selling Proposition comes in We're moving in this new era where people have TONS of options, especially with the help of the internet Just being a detailer it's not enough and it's way too generic You need a unique twist in your detailing business. Niching down and to be more specific on who you want to be serving The top 1% of detailers, their business model is different, their branding is different, their pricing is different their message is different, their service is different They don't just copy blindly and do what most detailers do Ask yourself: What makes you different from the other detailers? If you can't answer this question, you're in for a wild ride lol. Time to start thinking It could be a certain exclusive coating installer, could be specializing in a specific type of vehicles, could be specializing in 4x4, could be specializing in JDM vehicles, could be specializing in Aviation, could be specializing in British cars It's infinite If you target everyone you get no one If you niche down and target a specific segment of the market, your message gets 10x stronger, you're now a specialist in a market of your own and moreover, you get to enjoy what you're working on and not some random jobs everyday I'm currently intaking ONLY a few more students in my Uplevel Detailing program where I help them to do exactly that - creating their Point Of Differentiation and Unique Selling Proposition As well as implementing targeted marketing and high-ticket sales to book high-value clients consistently like a clockwork and grow their detailing business to the 6-7 figure calibre. The whole running and growing a detailing business side that no one really has talked about or even been taught If you're serious about getting your detailing business to the next level, shoot me a message and let's chat It usually goes like this: car driving into the shop, snow foam, dry, correct, then apply the coating then showcasing some sick water beads. Usually accompanied with some tacky dubstep or EDM (cringe 100) and show how great their process is
I know it because I made a couple of videos like this too lol After diving deep into the world of direct response marketing and sales, I realised how terrible my video was Problem #1 - the video is made entirely FOR the detailer and not to attract clients All they get is praises from other detailers praising on their work Ask yourself, do you want actually want more sales or some compliment from other detailers to boost your ego? I take sales any other day. Compliments and validation from other detailers is only a distraction from working on your craft Keep the main the main thing, which is bringing in sales and delivering the result Problem #2 - Selling the process instead of benefits and results Your clients DON'T care about how you deliver your results and the process of how you do it. All they want is their car to be detailed, whether it's just a clean or paint correction. They are paying for the RESULT How to fix it and make a kickass promo video? Your videos should focus - 80% on the BENEFITS and RESULTS - 10-15% of social proof (like other cool cars in the workshop) - And then 5-10% process - A strong call-to-action at the end of the video TESTING is key. After about 200-300 video views of the RIGHT targeting, how many calls did you get? Use a unique phone number specifically for your promo video and see how many phone calls you get per 200-300 views Protip: Engagement DOES NOT matter - the main metric is how many phone call in generates from your promo video There will always be some random fly-by-night detailer charging low prices to earn a quick buck
Don't worry about your competitors undercutting you offering the cheapest prices Clients who are looking to get it done for cheap shouldn't be your clients anyway Cheapest price attracts the cheapest (and worst) clients. Premium prices attract the right clients that value and respect your work Take a random $150 android phone VS the new iPhone 11 People's impression about the $150 phone will always be a crappy, shitty laggy phone where the iPhone will be worth the premium price tag Then look at who buys the $150 phone - are they the best customers? Or are they the one who is always looking for a deal? Don't think Apple will complain and whine about people buying the $150 phones over their iPhones lol Same goes with your detailing business too. Be the Apple in your market Stay focused and deliver your best work |
